3A: An investment that should not be passed up

Dear Editor:

Hopefully, the voters of Cortez will support the bond issue for SWOS, Proposition 3A.

I have had the opportunity to work with the student service organization of SWOS on a public service project each year for the past four years. They have been a fine group of young people to work with. I am proud to continue to be associated with them.

These young people, together with their dedicated teachers and support staff, deserve far better than the facilities they now have — with one exception a collection of structures that are little more than shacks. Given that every dollar invested in SWOS by the taxpayers of Cortez will be matched by almost $2.50 from the state of Colorado lottery and school lands funds, Proposition 3A is an investment that should not be passed up.

For about the cost of two gallons of gas per year, the average homeowner in Cortez can continue to provide these deserving young people with the second chance for a high school education that they have asked for. In my opinion, they have earned and will appreciate your support.
