WEDNESDAY, OCT. 5
An officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a stolen wallet. He spoke with a woman who had placed her purse in the basket she was pushing, and her wallet had been in an open side pocket of the purse. While shopping, she turned her back on her cart a couple of times, and when she was in the checkout she found that her wallet was gone. She checked in her car and at another business she had just left that she had used her wallet in, but it was in neither location. The woman was advised to go home and cancel her credit cards and notify the card companies that her wallet had been stolen.
An officer was dispatched to Walmart for a call of a stolen purse. A woman told the officer she had been shopping in the meat section and turned her head for a few seconds to check on a relative who was with her. Shortly after, she noticed that her purse was missing from her cart. She didnt see anyone that may have taken her purse nearby. The purse was described as a black imitation-leather saddlebag style with a long handle.
An officer responded to City Market for a report of an adult male shoplifter. Store security had observed a suspect who took two beers, valued at $2.58, and put them in his coat pockets. When the suspect spoke with the officer, he said that he had never done this before, and said Yeah, you caught me. He was issued a summons for shoplifting.
FRIDAY, OCT. 7
An officer was asked to respond to Walmart for a report of two female shoplifters that they had in custody. An employee had found empty containers in the clothing department that had the clothing removed. He observed the two girls pushing a cart with an infant in it, and followed them as they both removed other clothing items and put them inside two black bags resembling purses that they had in the cart. The girls then went through the checkout and paid for some food items. As they attempted to leave the store, they were confronted by the employee. They were taken to another area of the store where the girls emptied the black bags, which contained mostly baby clothing as well as hair and makeup items. The older of the two girls was 19 years old and she admitted that she had taken the items with the help of her 16 year-old little sister. She said that she did it because times are hard and she didnt have the money to pay for the items. The items in total were worth $244.37. The girls mother was called and they were released to her custody
An officer met with a man who advised that he had returned from being out of town for three days to find that his residence had been robbed by someone who had entered through a bedroom window. Missing was a cell phone belonging to his son, a camcorder, and a piece of Native American dancing regalia known as a bustle. The bustle is described as blue, white, red, yellow and black, with a white trim.
SATURDAY, OCT. 8
An officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to an adult female shoplifter, who was observed attempting to leave the store when she set off the security alarm. She said that she didnt have anything on her, but set off the alarm a second time when asked to go through the gate again. The employee observed two DVD movies in her purse. The woman admitted to concealing them, and stated that she had no money to pay for them. She then changed her mind, stating that she had $100 on her person. The two movies were valued at $23. The woman was escorted to the officers patrol car where she was read her rights and issued a summons for shoplifting.
MONDAY, OCT. 10
An officer was dispatched to Walmart for a call of shoplifting. Three females were observed concealing numerous articles of clothing inside their clothing. They were detained when they tried to leave. One female had four pairs of ladies panties totaling $38.02, the second female had six pairs of ladies panties totalling $41.84, and the third female had four pairs of ladies panties and one bra, totalling $21.98. They were all issued summonses for shoplifting.
TUESDAY, OCT. 11
An officer was dispatched to City Market for a call of a juvenile shoplifter. The store was not at first inclined to press charges, but decided to do so due to the juveniles uncooperative attitude and bad demeanor. The juvenile stole two cans of soda and a baked potato. He was issued a summons for theft, and released into the custody of his grandmother.
An officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to the theft of a stereo from a vehicle. A woman who met the officer there told him that she had been inside the store approximately 45 minutes, and when she came out the stereo was gone. The officer could see that the dashboard was taken apart where the stereo once was. Surveillance video of the parking lot revealed a small, older black single cab pickup truck pull into the lot, with a male driver exiting the truck and then getting into the passenger side of the reporting partys car. The person is inside of the car for approximately one minute, then gets out and walks back to the black pickup truck and leaves the area. The video was logged into evidence for this case.
An officer was dispatched to the Giant convenience store in reference to a female shoplifter who is visible on surveillance video taking four packages of Stacker 2 diet pills into the rest room. Another employee found the empty packages in the rest room after she emerged approximately one minute later. The female was identified by the reporting party, a store employee who said that he knew her. When the officer contacted the female at her grandmothers house, and when told why he was there, the female suspect became upset and began yelling that she hated this town and that she can never get a break. She denied taking the pills several times, even after being told it was captured on surveillance video. She was issued a summons for shoplifting and also issued a trespass notice number advising her that she is not allowed to return to the store, and that she will be charged with trespassing if she does so. The surveillance video was logged into evidence.
