Why is gas in Cortez so expensive?

Here are current gas prices in our area: Durango, $3.42; Farmington, $3.33; Shiprock, $3.38; Moab, $3.51; and Cortez, $3.57.

Why is Cortez higher than anyone else? Is it just me, or does everyone feel like we are getting ripped off? Come on, Cortez gas stations, give us a break!

Editor’s note: Gas taxes vary by state. According to gaspricewatch.com, Colorado’s state tax on gasoline (not diesel fuel) is 22 cents per gallon; New Mexico’s is 17 cents plus a 1 cent/ per gallon loading fee; Utah’s is 24.5 cents. The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon.
