Chamber will offer business workshop on customer relations
Give Em Knock Their Socks Off Service! The Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce will offer an opportunity for businesses to achieve excellent customer service through a workshop taught by Toby Leser & Associates from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Colorado Welcome Center, 928 E. Main St., Cortez.
This workshop will focus on excellent customer relations, creating and maintaining long-term relationships. Every organization has customers. The organizations that thrive and prosper are those that consistently satisfy their customers and good customer service is essential to customer satisfaction. Toby Leser is an expert in Leadership and Supervisory Skills, Customer Service, Change and Stress Management, Interpersonal Communication, Teamwork and Workplace Diversity.
The cost is $25 for chamber members and $35 for nonmembers. Dinner will be provided, and space is limited.

Mancos Library, 4CORE will offer energy and audit workshop
The Mancos Public Library, Empire Electric, and the Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency (4CORE) are sponsoring a free energy awareness and audit workshop at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Mancos Public Library, 211 W. First St.
The workshop will cover how to check out and use the Kill-A-Watt meters (available for checkout at all Montezuma County libraries) to find out how much electricity an appliance uses. The workshop will also address sustainable building methods, as well as resources for saving energy, including weatherization and rebates. Come by and check out watts happening at your local library.

The Christmas Shop will be fully decorated, so come and join us for an exhilarating evening of seasonal socializing. Silent auction will help Runaway and Homeless Youth Trust Fund
Montezuma County Partners Runaway and Homeless Youth Program invites the community to refreshments and a silent auction of youth-created artwork and donated items from the community from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the First National Bank in Cortez, 2258 E. Main St.
Youths ages 5-18 submitted a creative project that highlights or calls attention to the issue of youth homelessness through artwork. The art pieces are in the form of photographs, paintings, drawings, poetry and/or short stories. Youth participants were encouraged to keep the theme Answering the Call in mind when they completed their projects. This is an opportunity to highlight the talents of youth and young adults while boosting public awareness about the story of youth homelessness in Montezuma and Dolores counties.
Organizers will present a slide show and will be on hand to answer any questions about the program. Nonperishable food items for the food drive to be distributed before Thanksgiving to youth and their families is welcome. Donations will be appreciated as well. All proceeds from the auction will go toward the local Runaway and Homeless Youth Trust Fund. The RHYP at Montezuma County Partners assists young adults 21 and under with financial burdens such as rent, utilities, clothing, food, etc.

Hymn For Her duo will perform stomp-grass punk folk show
Hymn For Her, a rockin duo, will perform their blazing live stomp-grass punk folk with a hint of Americana show at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Dolores River Brewery, 100 S. Fourth St., Dolores.
Lucy Tight and Wayne Waxing hail from anywhere they can park their 16-foot, 1961 vintage Bambi Airstream (comes with dog and baby) as they tour the U.S. coast to coast. Both players are multi-instrumentalists and one tight unit. Lucy plays a three-stringed broom handle/cigar box guitar, banjo and sometimes even a glockenspiel as she shares vocal duties with Wayne, who also plays acoustic guitar, banjo, dobro, and/or harmonica all while handling percussion on bass drum and hi-hat! Bullet microphones and an arsenal of effect pedals give this band a sound like no other. The show is enhanced by a slide show of original photos projected on an old-fashioned slide projector.

Cortez library has Gobble, Gobble! theme for November Storytime
Gobble, Gobble! is the November theme of Storytime at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. Storytime is held every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool-aged children. Older children are welcome to join us for the craft at 11:15 a.m.
Please note: the library switched Storytime hour from Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. to Fridays at 10:30 a.m.
Save a Turkey: Eat Your Veggies! will be discussed on Friday, Nov. 11. Well explore A National Holiday Friday, Nov. 18. There will be no Storytime on Friday, Nov. 25, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and uses the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative program.

Yard sale will raise funds for redecorating assisted living center
Madison House assisted living is having a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at 120 S. Madison St. Donation items for the yard sale are being accepted now and up to the morning of the sale.
Funds raised will help with redecorating the 24-year-old facility currently undergoing renovation. The organization will have the old dining room and hallway furniture available for sale, and lots of plants. Madison House is a charitable organization, and those that donate will be provided a donation slip to use during tax time.

Public is invited to learn about Bridge shelter at open house
The Bridge emergency shelter will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at 608 N. Mildred, Cortez.
This event will provide an opportunity to talk with staff about what goes on at the shelter and to participate in a Blessing of the shelter space. Refreshments will be provided. The public is invited to see the shelter and dissolve some of the mystery about how the shelter operates to serve not only those in need, but to alleviate some of the suffering and damage caused to the whole community by homelessness and the dangers of severe winter temperatures. Last year the shelter served 225 adults, 4,330 meals and 3,254 nights of shelter.

Dolores Water Conservancy District will celebrate 50th anniversary
The public is invited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dolores Water Conservancy District and the 25th anniversary of water deliveries to the areas towns and farms from McPhee Reservoir. A barbecue lunch will be held at noon (doors open at 11 a.m.), followed by a brief recognition ceremony, on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave.
This celebration is a time to honor the visionaries that formed the DWCD in 1961; advocates who worked tirelessly to get the Dolores Project approved and funded by Congress; the builders that designed and constructed McPhee Dam and the canals to deliver water; farmers that made the investment and transformed newly-irrigated land into productive crops; community leaders that secured a 100 year domestic water supply; partners that worked to realize the full benefit of the project; and the directors and workers committed to successful operation of the project.
There will be a commemorative memento for all who attend, and map and photo displays. Families are invited to attend.

Bake sale will support M-CHS Marching Panthers
The Montezuma-Cortez Marching Panthers will hold a bake sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, and Saturday, Nov. 12, outside of both entrances to City Market, 508 E. Main St. Many of the students and parents have baked a bunch of homemade goodies to sell. There will also be gluten-free items available.

Four Corners Cutting Horse Club will hold practice cutting
The Four Corners Cutting Horse Club will hold a practice cutting from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, 30100 U.S. Highway 160, Cortez.
Cost for participation is $60. Registration is necessary to ensure the proper number of cattle are available. The public is welcome to attend the event.

Cultural Center offers felting class taught by local sculptor
The Cortez Cultural Center is offering a class in needle felting, taught by local sculptor Jay Whitewolf, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. or Thursdays, Nov. 10 and 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. The Cultural Center is at 25 N. Market St.
Supplies are available for $15. Students will be felting on an 18 by 18 inch square of fabric that can be made into a pillow, bag, apron, or wall hanging, or squares of felt for gift card holders ... perfect for the rapidly approaching holiday season! Film We Still Live Here will show at Community Cinema series
The Mancos Public Library and the Tribal College Journal will show the next film in the Community Cinema series titled We Still Live Here: As Nutayunean at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Mancos Public Library, 211 W. First St.
The Wampanoag saved the pilgrims from starvation, and lived to regret it. Spurred on by their celebrated linguist Jessie Little Doe Baird, the Wampanoag of Cape Cod and Marthas Vineyard are reviving their language more than a century after the last native speaker died. A panel-led discussion will follow the film. This film exhibition is free.

Graces Soup Kitchen will serve Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Graces Soup Kitchen, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, will serve its 13th annual traditional Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, at the Mary Blake Hall at the church, 110 W. North St., Cortez.
This community dinner is for anyone who is hungry or needs some company. Graces also delivers for the homebound and have take-outs (please call ahead and provide a name and phone number). This event is open to the entire community, and is a special occasion, thanks to the 50 to 70 volunteers who decorate the hall for this day.
Graces is an all-volunteer organization, which relies on the generous support of the community. A $20 gift would help feed a family of three or four. Please send contributions to Graces Soup Kitchen, 110 W. North St., Cortez, CO 81321. Graces also needs frozen turkeys, which will be accepted now and up to Thanksgiving, and fresh (please, no frozen) fruit pies any type to be brought in on Wednesday, Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving. Graces provided more than 12,000 meals last year without condition or requirement; the kitchen is open for meals three days a week, starting at noon.
