Hello to my Rico Report friends.
The Rico community seems to be settling down and preparing for another lovely winter in paradise. Actually, Highway 145 is dry and safe except for a couple of shady spots down below. We received 5 or 6 inches of snow last weekend, but it didnt stay because of the warm sun the next day or two.
Mary Lou (Jay) Milstead and her mother, Helen Drummond, left Rico for some of that California sunshine late last month and husband Jay was left to batten down the hatches and enjoy some peace and quiet. When he departed, Mr. Winter was nipping at his heels! Upon his arrival in Yuma, he gets to open up the house before wife and company arrive from California. Never-ending responsibilities. Trouble is, when we retirees are not exactly spring chickens any more, winterizing a home up here in the high country is no small feat.
Another old-timer friend of our area has passed away. Charlotte Myers of Montrose called to inform us that her husband Tom passed away because of a heart attack on Nov. 5 in Montrose. His service was held Nov. 11 at the Latter-day Saints church in Montrose. He was 72 years of age. Some of you may know Charlotte and Tom and she wanted friends to know of his passing. He was Helen (Grady) Leavells brother and their son, Gordon, was his nephew. Our sincere condolences to Charlotte and her family. Her address is 62880 W. LaSalle Road, Montrose, CO 81401, in case anyone would like to send the family a note.
Note: I would like to make a statement regarding our own family affairs and the world affairs at this time in our lives. Both President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President John F. Kennedy issued statements regarding the frightening feeling and the results of fear. President Roosevelt stated that you have nothing to fear, but fear itself. President Kennedy, in one of his famous speeches, stated that we should not let our fears hold us back from pursuing our hopes. (I feel that when one is fearful it seems that we have a tendency to make bad decisions and mistakes that we would not ordinarily consider when dealing with our everyday problems. But, first of all, we must realize that we are reacting in a fearful manner in our dealings).
Have a good week, everyone.
