Monday, May 8

1:09 p.m.: A man was arrested at Wendy’s, 221 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating a protection order. He reportedly got angry and argued with responding officers throughout the arrest, saying he was only being arrested because the protected party was “a pretty female.”

2:46 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting and trespassing. Store employees claimed she had tried to take $63.56 of merchandise after she had already been trespassed from the property. Another woman was issued a summons and a trespass notice after employees said she tried to take $123.86 in merchandise.

3:18 p.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Tuesday, May 9

10:07 a.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road.

10:44 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

4:56 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 2200 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after she was pulled over for having an illegal window tint on her vehicle.

8:45 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of West Fourth Street on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, third-degree assault, domestic violence and child abuse. His girlfriend claimed he had dragged her inside their house by her hair and hit her in the face multiple times after she got a ride home from another man. She claimed she was holding the man’s 1-year-old daughter at the time of the attack, and that this had happened several times before. Responding officers found a bottle of oxycodone-acetaminophen pills in the suspect’s possession, which he said belonged to his mother. His girlfriend was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for facial injuries, but the daughter appeared unharmed.

9:58 p.m.: A man was arrested at Cortez Plaza, 2212 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after a woman claimed he was making threats toward her.

Wednesday, May 10

12:03 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of South Oak Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.

1:05 a.m.: A woman was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, where she was being treated for severe intoxication.

3:39 p.m.: A woman was served with two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanors at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

6:59 p.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on suspicion of obstructing police and violating bond conditions. Hospital staff said he was refusing to leave the emergency room after being treated for chest pain, saying he didn’t want to go out in the rain and wanted to go to jail instead. When police asked him to leave, he reportedly attempted to punch one of the officers in the face and continued to struggle throughout the arrest.

8:14 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Giant gas station on 2320 E. Main St. on suspicion of violating felony bond conditions.

Thursday, May 11

11:23 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of theft at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St. Another woman had reported that her wallet, which contained her driver’s license, two credit cards, $100 in cash, her AARP card, food stamp card and Medicare card, had been stolen after she left it on a counter at Wal-Mart earlier in the day. With the help of video surveillance footage, police identified the suspect. When confronted, the woman returned the wallet but without its contents. She reportedly said she had used the cash to pay her cell phone bill and had shredded everything else.

4:30 p.m.: Two women were issued summonses on suspicion of shoplifting at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St., the day before. Store employees claimed they had left with a bottle of lotion, a backpack and two BB guns, valued at $174.91 total.

4:37 p.m.: A woman was arrested outside the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.

6:41 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of possessing alcohol in the park.
