Tired of turkey? Give Meatball a try. “Meatball” is a big, beautiful, 9-month-old Irish setter/black Labrador retriever mix. He’s got a gorgeous wavy, glossy-black coat, big, brown eyes, and long, silky ears. He’s very smart and will pick up training well — he should go to a home with owners willing to put time and effort into his training, and he’ll make an excellent dog for someone. He’s goofy and sweet-natured, and will make a lifelong friend for the right family. The shelter is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on alternate Fridays. The shelter is closed today for the Thanksgiving holiday, and will also be closed Friday. We hope that Monday there will be someone ready and waiting to take this big boy home. Right now, the shelter needs non-clumping cat litter, Purina puppy chow, Purina or Pedigree adult dog food, Iams or Purina kitten chow, and all sorts of dog treats or chews to keep the dogs and puppies there occupied. They also need cleaning supplies such as bleach. As the season for giving and sharing approaches, please don’t forget our community’s homeless and stray pets. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910. To view more animals, visit www.petfinder.com (enter 81321 zip code) or http://www.cityofcortez.com/government/animal_shelter.
