Dear Editor:

Has critical thinking fallen by the wayside in favor of political and media sound bites? No checking facts because that might disrupt people’s basic beliefs that life is unfair and producers should give more so the non-producers can live a better life. That’s exactly how we’ve arrived at the mess we’re in.

You have to understand the 9-9-9 plan is an outline of what Herman Cain wants and eventually wants to go to a fair tax which would really make this economy grow by leaps and bounds. Detractors paid no attention to the fact the cost of goods would fall by around 20 percent, which would really make the savings a good deal, and they seem to have forgotten all other federal taxes would disappear. Those below a certain level of income would be exempted as well. Of course we could go with all the other candidates’ 20 percent flat tax.

As usual, letter writers fall back on the divisive “the rich don’t pay enough.” You see the results of this constant mantra in the cities across the country where the lazy, spoiled, want everything for free crowd have destroyed parks and even businesses where they tore lavatories off the wall and threw things at clerks who wouldn’t give them food for free as well as defecating and urinating wherever they happen to be.

Is this really what you want?
