The Children’s Kiva is a not-for-profit, Montessori based pre-school and kindergarten program for children ages 3 to 6. The school has been operating in Cortez for nearly 25 years, and was voted No. 1 preschool in the 2011 Cortez Journal’s Reader’s Poll. In January the school will have some openings for enrollment, although this is a rare mid-year occurrence. This offers a great opportunity for new families to learn about the program. The Children’s Kiva is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with flexible, full- and half-time schedules available. While there are a couple of mid-week spots open, Mondays and Fridays offer families a special opportunity — with student numbers lower on those days, children benefit from the increased attention of the Kiva’s staff (all lead teachers at the Kiva have completed certification at Montessori Education Center of the Rockies in Boulder), and some children greatly enjoy the quieter setting.
