Marc Meyer, who oversees pharmacy practice, infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship for the Southwest Health System, has been named a fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, according to a news release.

APIC President Linda Greene shared the news with Meyer, according to a news release from Haley Leonard Saunders, marketing and public relations director for Southwest Health System.

“I am very pleased to inform you that you have been accepted as a member of the 2017 group of APIC fellows!” Greene said. “Because of your achievements, you are now entitled to use the credential ‘FAPIC,’ for Fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. Congratulations on receiving this honor. APIC is delighted to recognize your achievements.”

Meyer also attended the APIC annual conference in Portland, Oregon, joining thousands of health care professionals focused on infection prevention, on June 14-16.

Meyer has collaborated with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, large health systems, the Colorado Hospital Association and foundations that protect patient health, and consumer watchdog agencies to address the growing problem of antibiotic resistance, Saunders said.

He has worked with Dr. Arjun Srinivasan, associate director for infection prevention programs, who said he considers Marc to be one of the nation’s leading resources on antibiotic stewardship health care setting, Saunders said.

Meyer has been asked to mentor other critical access hospitals in the U.S. and has been selected by the CDC to present his data.

“Southwest Health System is proud of the incredible and important work Meyer has done to educate a national audience about overuse and misuse of antibiotics,” Saunders said.

Meyer can be reached at Southwest Memorial Hospital at 970-564-2194 or by email at mmeyer@swhealth.org.
