DENVER — State Rep. Sal Pace, D-Pueblo, got a boost for his bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, when national Democrats put the race on their list of top targets.

Pace’s inclusion in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Red to Blue program will bring money and organizational help to his campaign.

Meanwhile, Republicans took aim at Pace for Thursday’s vote against a state House resolution to call a national Constitutional convention to repeal President Barack Obama’s federal health care law.

Perry out: Texas Gov. Rick Perry dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Newt Gingrich.

Obama visiting again: Obama will visit the Denver area next Thursday, the Denver Post reported, as part of a five-state swing after Tuesday’s State of the Union address. It will be Obama’s third visit to Colorado since September.

There’s no word yet on campaign stops from Republican candidates, who are busy with today’s South Carolina primary. Florida and Nevada have votes before the Colorado Republican caucuses on Feb. 7.

Countdown: 290 days until the election.
