Classmates finish first, second in Mancos half-marathon

Sydney Gidabuday, of Adams State, won the Mancos Cowboy Half-Marathon on Saturday with a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes, 9.69 seconds. He edged out schoolmate Ro Paschal, a Mancos High School graduate, by just over 1 second.

“They are both friends from Adams State, so it was a friendly competition,” said race organizer Dana Peterson. Gidabuday attended high school in Orange, California.

Kaylee Bogina won the women’s race, with a time of 1:35:35, beating second-place finisher Jenn Maley by just 14 seconds.

In the men’s 5K run, Ray Thomas, 37, of Mancos, took the win with a time of 28:51. Shaine Gans, 43, of Dolores, took second with a time of 28:59.

In the women’s 5K, Felicia Chischilly, of Crown Point, New Mexico, took first place with a time of 29:39. Summer Davis, of Cortez, took second place with a time of 29:58.

This year, 156 registered for the races, up 25 from 2016.
