Montezuma County is reviewing its road map and will hold a public meeting on proposed changes on July 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the county commission meeting room.

To view the road updates, go to the Montezuma County website.

One of the proposed changes would open up access to an isolated piece of BLM land south of Summit Lake. Road 35.6 and Road N, among others, would change from red-signed roads to green-signed roads to provide more definitive public access to the public land parcel. The BLM plans to install a parking lot and trailhead off Road N where it touches BLM lands to provide access for nonmotorized uses with a focus on horse riding and hiking. No developed trails are planned.

Green-signed county roads are public, and red-signed county roads are generally considered private. But in the Summit Ridge subdivision, plat language states the roads are open to the public, so the county is proposing to officially make them green-signed roads.
