Wednesday, July 12
2:42 p.m.: A man was issued a summons outside the Baymont Inn, 2321 E. Main St., Cortez. on suspicion of third-degree assault. A man reported the suspect and another man had been trying doors on the guest rooms, and had hit him in the head after he asked them to leave the motel. Deputies were unable to locate the other suspect immediately, but they requested a warrant for his arrest based on witness identification.
2:47 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant after being turned in by a bail bonding agent.
8:04 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft at Cortez Mini Self Storage, 6897 County Road 24. A woman claimed someone had broken into her storage unit in May, and she later realized two semi-automatic handguns were missing. The case remains under investigation.
Thursday, July 13
9:14 a.m.: A woman was arrested on a warrant at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road.
10:15 a.m.: A man was arrested at the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
2:56 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft in the 200 block of Central Avenue, Dolores. A man claimed his weed trimmer, valued at $250, had gone missing from his yard about five days earlier. The case remains under investigation.
Friday, July 14
8:58 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 12000 block of Colorado Highway 145 on a La Plata County warrant after she was pulled over for speeding.
11:03 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a deer stuck in mud in the 17000 block of Colorado Highway 145, Dolores. Upon arriving, deputies found that the deer was not stuck, but had lost control over its legs and appeared to be sit. A deputy shot it to put it out of its misery. Within the next hour, deputies received reports of a sick stray cat and a dead raccoon with no apparent injuries, also in the Dolores area. Deputies notified a Colorado Parks and Wildlife ranger and the Montezuma County Health Department, but it was not immediately clear if the reports were related.
12:49 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear.
2:26 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft at Lizard Head Cyclery, 350 Railroad Ave., Dolores. The store owner claimed a Colorado flag, valued at $20, had been taken from the front of his business. The case remains under investigation.
10:49 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a restraining order violation in the 13000 block of County Road 28. A man claimed that another man against whom he had a restraining order had thrown a block of wood at his house and yelled at him to get out. Deputies were not able to find the suspect immediately.
Saturday, July 15
5:17 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10000 block of County Road 43 on suspicion of third-degree assault, domestic violence, prohibited use of weapons and reckless endangerment. Another man claimed he had fired a gun and charged at him after he asked him to leave his neighbor’s residence, leading him to punch the suspect several times. The woman who lived in the residence said the suspect had hit her earlier during an argument, and that he had a tendency not to let her go anywhere alone. A handgun was found on the dashboard of the suspect’s vehicle, where he went after the alleged fight. The suspect was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment of a broken nose and severe intoxication before being taken to jail. No injuries were reported as a result of the gunshot.
12 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of harassment in the 600 block of Hillside, Dolores. A man reported that someone had been shouting profanity and had let off a firework outside his home the previous night. The case remains under investigation.
5:49 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 19000 block of County Road 23 on suspicion of harassment and a restraining order violation. A deputy reportedly saw the suspect standing near a parked vehicle waving a pipe wrench and shouting threats at passersby. When the deputy contacted him, he had reportedly gone inside the vehicle and refused to leave until the deputy reached through the open door and grabbed his wrist.
6:47 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft at a ranch in the 42000 block of County Road N. An employee said three months of time sheets had been stolen from her office at the ranch after multiple employees were laid off. The case remains under investigation.
Sunday, July 16
9:10 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant at Burger King, 520 W. Main St., Cortez, after a deputy contacted his vehicle in the parking lot for transporting children without proper car seats.
Monday, July 17
10:03 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
10:04 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to comply on a felony charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
10:19 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to comply on a misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
