DENVER — Cole Baughman from Dove Creek High School suffered a heartbreaking loss in the 120-pound finals of the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament tonight.

Baughman had several opportunities in the title match but Rocky Ford's Adam Baca countered every attack to win 7-2.

Montezuma-Cortez's Ryan Daves fought off the disappointment of not making the finals in the Class 4A 126-pound division to achieve his best-ever finish at state. He scored two points shortly before the final whistle to notch a 6-5 victory to claim third place. He'd finished fourth the last two seasons.

Chance Randolph of Dove Creek also placed third. His Class 2A 113-pound third-place match was tight, with Randolph staging a comeback to win 10-9.

Dalton Randolph placed fifth at 138 and Chance Johnson (182) placed sixth for Dove Creek.

Wyatt Wade of Dolores placed fourth in the Class 2A 126-pound division.

See Tuesday's Cortez Journal for more details from the state wrestling tournament.
