Former Montezuma-Cortez grappler Justin Samora has wrestled his way to the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Wrestling at 165 pounds for Adams State College (Alamosa), Samora (15-12) went 5-2 in Fort Hays, Kan., at the Division II Super Regional-4 to qualify.

This is the second-consecutive year the redshirt sophomore has made nationals, which will be held March 9-10, in Pueblo.

As a freshman, Samora compiled a 16-14 record wrestling at 157 pounds.

A 2009 graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School, Samora was a Colorado state runner-up both as a junior and senior competing at 140 and 152 pounds.

Samora was a Army National Scholar Male Athlete Award Winner in 2009. That same year, he received the Byran Rowe Fighting Heart Award.

Samora is the son of Rick and Melissa Applin.
