11:13 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear.
6:41 p.m.: A woman was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
7:14 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a break-in in the 13000 block of County Road 28. A woman claimed someone had entered her house and taken an emerald ring valued at $600, a diamond ring valued at $3,500, an iPad valued at $400, a drill valued at $250, a camera valued at $200 and a pair of Walmart earrings valued at $30. The woman reportedly said she regularly leaves her house unlocked and some of her neighbors told her they had seen an unfamiliar car in the area earlier that day. The case remains under investigation.
11:40 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a traffic accident in the 14000 block of County Road 25. A pickup had reportedly crashed into a tree and the driver was wedged inside. Firefighters from the Cortez Fire Protection District were able to remove him from the vehicle and transport him to a hospital. Responding deputies reported a strong smell of alcohol on the driver. Colorado State Patrol troopers took over the crash investigation.
Saturday, Aug. 5
9:31 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft in the 5000 block of County Road 25. A man claimed someone had tried to steal his truck the previous night before backing it into his fence and stealing the ignition key and key fob. About $50 of damage was done to the fence, $100 of damage was done to the truck’s driver side taillight and the key and key fob were valued at $150. The man reportedly said he always leaves his truck unlocked with the key in the ignition. The case remains under investigation.
10:27 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of criminal mischief at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, 30100 U.S. Highway 160. A woman claimed someone had dented the driver’s side door and hood of her car while it was parked at the Fairgrounds the previous night. She said she suspected someone in her ex-husband’s family, but the case remains under investigation.
6:26 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
7:41 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Fairgrounds, 30100 U.S. Highway 160, on a warrant for contempt of court.
Sunday, Aug. 6
9:09 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 100 block of West Mike Wash Road, Towaoc, on a warrant out of Texas.
Monday, Aug. 7
5:50 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of property damage in the 16000 block of County Road Z. A man claimed someone had tried to break into his shop, causing about $100 of damage to the locks on his door. The case remains under investigation.
Tuesday, Aug. 8
1:25 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a bear in the 21000 block of U.S. Highway 145. One deputy reportedly saw a bear digging through trash near a dumpster, and honked his horn to scare it away. The owners of the nearby residence said the bear had tried to get into their kitchen and had caused about $25 of damage to a screen on a window.
4:49 p.m.: A man was served with four warrants at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., including a local felony warrant for theft, two misdemeanor warrants for failure to comply and one misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear.
5:33 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of fraud in the 12000 block of County Road 40.5. A man claimed his social security number had been used in an attempt to open a credit card account. He also said his mail was being forwarded to an address in Georgia without his permission. The case remains under investigation.
