Oh, happy spring! Well, at least it is where Ken and I are located at the moment — in Texas. Everyone deserves a vacation, don’t they?

I still know what is going on in Rico, believe me.

The Dolores County School Board are in the process of determining whether it is possible to continue to keep the Rico elementary school open for the next year 2012-2013. By the time this issue of the Rico Report is published, we will know the fate of the school — unless there is something more that can be done (monetarily) to save our dear school. Parents plan to carpool to Dove Creek for this Thursday meeting.

I promised a full report on the ice skating program to be presented by our children and those participating from the Telluride area who have been taking lessons this winter. Three age groups performed separately and also in acts that presented all the students together. The itty-bitty skaters wore hula skirts and flowers in their hair, while the older kids dressed as pirates and sported eyepatches, bandanas and whatever else they could add to their costume. Personally, I would need both eyes wide open, wouldn’t you? Addie Jones and Lydia Hagan skated a duet, while little Ava Hagan performed solo. All of our little ones were excellent and have become very good on their skates. One of the very beautiful instructors performed for the girls with an outstanding performance. She has skated all her life and the girls cheered for her as she went through her routine. All, truly inspired.

The Rico Volunteer Fire Department/Search and Rescue mutually assisted the Telluride Fire Department after three snowmobilers were seriously injured in an accident in the backcountry. Flight for Life was necessary to complete the rescue.

St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated in style this weekend, with the Enterprise Bar and Cafe and Dew South down the street offering dinner specials and a D.J. at the Enterprise. Our Irish friends will enjoy an evening of entertainment and fun — guaranteed!
