Levi Horn football camp



The Ute Mountain Recreation Center in Towaoc and Chicago Bears offensive lineman, Levi Horn, are holding a free, one-day football skills camp at Wolf Pack Field on Friday. Horn is a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and a Washington state native. The full-day camp includes on the field drills with Horn and other coaches, a motivational speech by Horn and lunch. The camp runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids should bring cleats, workout clothes and a hoodie, in case of inclement weather. Tri-City Soccer registrations



Tri-City Soccer is accepting registrations for spring soccer. Spring soccer will run from Monday, April 9, through Saturday, May 5, for most teams. Teams are for children aged 3 through 13 (based on their age as of July 31, 2011). Placement is based on first come, first served space availability. If a child played soccer in the fall of 2011, people do not need to re-register their child. Registrations can be picked up at the Cortez Recreation Center. Towaoc high school basketball tournament



The Ute Mountain Recreation Center in Towaoc will host a boys and girls high school tournament the weekend of April 14-15. It’s a double elimination tournament and entry fee is $140. Registration deadline is Tuesday, April 10. Call back for game time will be Thursday, April 12, before noon. Awards are given to first- through-third-place. CWGA kickoff dinner



The annual Conquistador Women’s Golf Association kickoff dinner is on Tuesday, April 17, at Lotsa Pasta. It will begin with a social hour at 6:30 p.m., and dinner at 7. The price will be $15 per person. There is a sign up sheet in the ladies lounge at the Conquistador Golf Course Pro Shop. People can also call Justina (565-1001) or Lanette (565-4669) to R.S.V.P. Please leave a message if they are unable to take your call. The deadline to R.S.V.P. is Tuesday, April 10. There will be door prizes. League dues this year are $55. If people wish to be included in the hole-in-one competition, add another dollar for a total of $56. The deadline for dues will be Sunday, April 29. After that, one’s membership will become inactive with CWGA local, CWGA state and GHIN on Monday, April 30. If paid later, the membership will be re activated. Regular Tuesday play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., May 1, with lunch and a business meeting to follow play at the Cortez Elk’s Lodge. The sign-up sheets for play and the lunch are at the Pro Shop. The first play for Wednesday will be May 2.




Southwest Softball umpire training and draft



The Southwest Softball umpire clinic will be held on Thursday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m., at the Parque de Vida field. For further information, please contact Josh Cornett at 560-0496. Southwest Softball will be conducting its annual draft on Friday, April 20, at 5:30 at the Parque de Vida field. Shiprock Marathon registration



The 29th annual Shiprock (N.M.) Marathon will be held on Saturday, May 5. According to Tom Riggenbach, Shiprock Marathon race director, there will be four options for event participants: full marathon, half marathon, 5-person marathon relay and a 10K trail run/walk. Registration for all Shiprock Marathon events is available online through www.active.com. Schools are encouraged to take part in the events and may register runners for the relay event with a purchase order. Registration closes one week before the event or when the registration caps are met. The caps are 200 runners for the full marathon, 400 runners for the half-marathon, and 100, 5-person teams for the relay. There is no cap on the number of participants for the 10K trail run/walk. All participants receive full marathon support on the course during the run. Support includes runner’s tech shirt, finish-line food, entertainment throughout the course and at the finish line, finisher’s medals, unique age-group awards, and official chip timing on the USATF-certified course. A pre-race dinner is being planned in Shiprock on Friday, May 4, featuring a course preview, live entertainment, a benefit auction and a guest speaker. Cortez Rec. Center adult softball



The Cortez Parks and Recreation Department is now taking registrations for men’s and women’s softball. League play is set to begin Monday, May 14. Men will play on Monday night and women will play on Tuesday. The registration fee is $300 per team. Come by the Cortez Recreation Center between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. to register. Spencer Posey memorial basketball tournament



The Ute Mountain Recreation Center in Towaoc will host the Spencer Posey memorial basketball tournament June 15-17. The men’s, double elimination tourney has a $300 entry fee that is due by Tuesday, June 5. Champions receive a cash prize, Pendleton Jackets and a trophy. Second place gets jackets and a trophy, while third place is awarded sweat shirts and a trophy. All players will receive a T-shirt. Certified officials will referee the tournament.
