8:36 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of stolen license plates in the 24000 block of Colorado Highway 184. A man claimed officers from the Craig Police Department had called him after confiscating a plate registered to his vehicle from a Cortez-registered vehicle they had contacted. The rear license plate was still missing.

Once he was in a holding cell, the man reportedly banged his head repeatedly on the cell door and hit the window with his arms so hard that it “bowed” outward. Responding deputies and police officers reportedly decided to put the man in a restraint chair for his own safety, but because he was shouting threats at them, they deployed a stun gun to incapacitate him as soon as they opened the cell door. The man was then handcuffed and put in a restraint chair with a “spit hood” over his head. He was medically cleared by personnel from Southwest Memorial Hospital after the stun gun deployment.
