Lady Bears relays ready for state

The Dolores Lady Bears swept all five relays in Pagosa Springs last Saturday.

Lexi Atkinson, Mindy McCracken, Cassie Lard and Brianna Schwartz won the 4x100-meter relay. The quartet won in 51.18 at the Terry Alley Invitational and look prime to defend their 2A state title. Atkinson, McCracken, Lard and Olivia Wright won the 4x200 in 1:47.58. Rachel Beverlin, Michelle Kline, Taylor Elder and Wright righted the ship in the 4x400, winning at 4:23.10. Beverlin, Regan Umberger, Kayla Charles and Megan Murfield won the 4x800 in a time of 11:14.30. McCracken, Kline, Schwartz and Wright finished in first in the 800-sprint medley relay in 1:54.89.

Atkinson took first in the 100-meter dash (13.16) and long jump (16-1.50). Lard and Kline also took the top times in the 200 and 800 at 27.03 and 2:28.74.

Stephen O’Connor-Seville placed sixth in the boys 400 in 53.65. Moki Youngquist was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles for the Bears at 49.82.

The Mancos Bluejays had a strong day.

Branson Mitchell, Brandon McKie and Kenny Philpott all finished on top in the 100 (11.87), 1,600-meter run (5:06.30) and the high jump (6-feet). Philpott also heaved the shot put 39-08.50, which was good for fourth. Connor Jankowski placed third in the 200 in 24.39.

Devin Kroeker led the Lady Bluejays in the high jump (4-8) and 100 (14.36), placing her third and eighth. Kristin Adams sprinted to a seventh-place time of 2:41.33 in the 800.

For Dove Creek, Cori Guynes hurdled to times of 17.09 and 50.59 in the girls 100- and-300-meter hurdles. Kristin Knuckles was third in the 3,200 at 14:13.71, while Madison Young’s shot put toss went 29-11.50 (sixth).

Cole Baughman had a good day in the hurdles for the Bulldogs. The junior took third in both the 110- and-300-hurdles in 18.55 and 47.45.

Mancos, Dolores and Dove Creek will compete today and Friday at the San Juan Basin League meet in Grand Junction at 8 a.m. each morning.
