Local students receive departmental honors at Fort Lewis College

The following local students have received departmental awards at Fort Lewis College in Durango for the 2011-12 academic year:

Veronica Espinoza of Mancos was honored with the Karen I. Spear Emerging Scholar Award for the Writing Program. Espinoza’s major is undeclared.

Krista Garchar of Dolores was honored with the Deans’ Council Freshman 4.0 Award, the Freshman Chemistry Recognition Award, and the Outstanding Sophomore Biology Student for General Biology. Garchar’s major is general biology.

Jessica Hatley of Mancos was honored with the Outstanding Senior Art Major. Hatley’s major is art — graphic design option.

Caitlin Houser of Cortez was honored with the Mathematics Award. Houser’s major is math — secondary education option.

Ciara Miesler of Cortez was honored with the Marilyn S. Leftwich Community Service Award for Psychology. Miesler’s major is psychology.

Logan Ott of Mancos was honored with the Taylor-Gibbons Award for Outstanding Senior in Physics. Ott’s major is physics — engineering physics option.

Shea Sena of Cortez was honored with the Junior/Senior Exercise Specialist Outstanding Student. Sena’s major is exercise science — exercise specialist option.
