Eli Tomac opened the outdoor motocross season in the top five last Saturday.

The Cortez native was back at the Hangtown Motocross Classic where he made history two years ago by winning his professional debut there.

Rancho Cordova, Calif., was the opening round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by American Motorcyclist Association Pro Racing.

Tomac, 19, placed fifth in the 250 Class, racing his CRF250 for Geico Powersports Honda factory racing team.

Tomac, coming off of his first AMA Supercross Lites West championship, will race today in Wortham, Texas, for the Miller Electric Freestone National, presented by Yamaha.

Final-moto coverage of the 450 and 250 Classes will air live on NBC Sports Network at 9 p.m.
