Touring across America, in their 1961 vintage Bambi Airstream, with a new record coming out next year, this group pushes the envelope in musical innovation.
Lucy Tight and Wayne Waxing make up the vocal group Hymn for Her, a rockin duo that hails from anywhere they can park their 16 foot Airstream as they tour the U.S. coast to coast.
The two are multi-instrumentalists and one tight unit.
The duo, with their five-year-old daughter and 90-pound black lab, Pokey in tow, will be performing a live show at the Dolores River Brewery on Fathers Day, June 17.
All ages can attend the show for $5, and the strumming and singing begins at 7 p.m.
They describe their music as stomp-grass punk folk with a hint of Americana.
Were always adding new songs that we love, Tight said. Were only doing things that are exciting for us, so that it is exciting for people to hear what were doing.
Tight wears many hats in Hymn for Her.
She plays what is known as a cigar box guitar, which is a three-stringed broom handle, a banjo and sometimes even a glockenspiel, which is a percussion instrument that is a set of arranged keys in the fashion of a keyboard.
She also shares vocal duties with Waxing, producing a harmony second to none.
Waxing stands beside Tight on stage and pushes the term ambidextrous, as he juggles the acoustic guitar, banjo, and the dobro, a resonator guitar.
The harmonica is no stranger to him either. Waxing does all of this while handling percussion on bass drum and hi-hat.
Bullet microphones and an arsenal of effect pedals give this band a sound like no other, Michelle Roche, the bands media relations director, said.
Their show is typically enhanced by a slide show of original photos projected by an old-fashioned slide projector, and the gig slated for June 17 is sure to deliver the same awe-inspiring performance, Roche said.
Wherever they play, this band wins over the audience with their amazing live show that sometimes might include a Led Zeppelin or other classic tune given the Hymn For Her twist.
Having played hundreds of shows in the last year and a half, including a tour of Belgium in February, theyll keep the road hot through the end of year of 2012 as they gear up for a new release in early 2013, which will include collaboration with Jim Diamond.
Before landing in Dolores at the Dolores River Brewery this Saturday, Hymn for Her will have already played shows all across the state including Crestone, Colorado Springs, Denver, Lyons and Paonia.
But life on the road isnt too hard.
Our favorite thing about touring is all of the different people we meet, Tight said. There are new friends to make at every show.
Saturdays gig will mark their third time playing at the Brewery; their most recent performance was on Nov. 11, 2011.
We are really looking forward to it, Tight said. The last few times that weve played at the Dolores Brewery were so much fun.
