Houser makes Baylor University Deans List
WACO, Texas Lauren Alysse Houser, of Cortez, is one of over 2,900 Baylor University students that were named to the Deans Academic Honor List for the 2012 spring semester. Houser attends the Hankamer School of Business. To be named to the Deans List, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. A private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, Baylor is classified as a research university with high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Ruckman graduates from Colorado College
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Former area student, Kyle Ruckman has graduated with a bachelors degree in Neuroscience from Colorado College. Ruckman is the son of Kirk and Sandy Ruckman of Cortez. The college awarded 525 undergraduate degrees and five master of arts in teaching degrees at its 130th commencement ceremony, held on May 21 outdoors on Armstrong Quad. Musician Abigail Washburn, a 1999 graduate of Colorado College, addressed the Class of 2012. In addition to Washburn, Colorado Lt. Gov. Joseph Garcia and legendary jazz guitarist Johnny Smith also received honorary degrees.
Colorado College is a nationally prominent, four-year liberal arts college that was founded in Colorado Springs in 1874.
M-CHS Fall Back to School Nights mandatory for students, parents
Montezuma-Cortez High Schools new schedules are done and M-CHS Back to School Nights have been scheduled for all high school students, both returning and new. This is a mandatory event for students and parents, and will accomplish the following upcoming school year requirements:
Pick up students class schedules
Fill out all required registration papers with parent signatures
Review the new attendance policy and student support programs
Receive information on career pathways and the enrichment program
Pick up all necessary Activities/Athletic paperwork and information
Meet M-CHS new Principal, Administration Team and Guidance staff
Junior/Senior Night will be Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Sophomore Night will be Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Freshmen Night will be on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. On each of these nights, students and parents will meet in the high school auditorium.
Registration for new students will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Aug. 14-16. All new students must meet with an administrator. New students will need to bring these required items: Proof of Residency; Copy of Birth Certificate; Certificate of Indian Blood (if needed); Immunization Records; and Transcripts. New students are invited to come by and pick up a packet and set up an appointment after Monday, Aug. 6.
Schedule changes are only available for academic reasons, and will be addressed between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Guidance Office (closed noon to 1 p.m. for lunch) on the following days: Incoming Juniors and Seniors Wednesday, Aug. 8; Incoming Sophomores Thursday, Aug. 9; Incoming Freshmen Monday, Aug. 13.
Class schedules will not be given out prior to this event.
