Saturday, Nov. 4
5:27 a.m.: A man was arrested at National 9 Motel, 301 W. Main St., on a U.S. Marshals warrant for failure to appear on an out-of-county felony after police responded to a disturbance in his room. A woman claimed he hit her in the face and refused to let her and her niece leave the room. The woman appeared to be intoxicated, and responding officers did not find evidence of physical contact on her or her niece. The man reportedly gave two false names and a false date of birth before officers determined his identity with a Colorado identification card.
10:56 a.m.: Police responded to a report of an abandoned motorcycle in Hawkins Preserve, 1500 S. Cedar St. The motorcycle had a broken clutch lever, apparently as a result of a crash. Responding officers were not able to immediately locate the owner, so they towed the vehicle to the police department.
12:03 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a stolen bicycle in the 500 block of East Montezuma Avenue. A man claimed his black Radio BMX bike, valued at $500, had been stolen the previous night from his front yard, where he had locked it inside a dog cage. A padlock on the outside of the cage appeared to have been cut. The case remains under investigation.
1:36 p.m.: A man was arrested at Mesa Verde Inn, 640 S. Broadway, on suspicion of violating two protection orders after a motel manager reported he was staying in a room for which he had not paid. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
2:49 p.m.: A man was arrested in Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on four warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital after he told arresting officers he was not feeling well.
5:37 p.m.: A man and woman were arrested outside Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., on warrants for shoplifting.
6:32 p.m.: A man was arrested outside the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
Sunday, Nov. 5
1:34 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 20 block of East 13th Street on suspicion of DUI.
11:26 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at City Market, 508 E. Main St. A woman reported she left her cellphone in a stroller just inside the store entrance. She said that when she went back for it, the phone, valued at $500, was gone. The case remains under investigation.
3:03 p.m.: Two women were arrested in the 100 block of South Elm Street on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after they were pulled over for a possible window tint violation. Several small bags of meth, a glass pipe, a digital scale with meth residue, a large amount of cash and a small amount of marijuana were found in the vehicle and in the women’s purses and pockets.
3:28 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1500 block of East Montezuma Avenue on suspicion of indecent exposure after witnesses reported he was urinating on the sidewalk. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
Monday, Nov. 6
11:32 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 700 block of East Third Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after police responded to a report of a disturbance between him and a woman. The woman reportedly said the two of them were not arguing, but were upset because they had nowhere to live.
2:36 p.m.: A woman was cited in the 10 block of West 10th Street on suspicion of destroying private property after another woman claimed she broke her window, causing $100 in damage. The suspect reportedly claimed the reporting party had broken her own window.
2:39 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of East Montezuma Avenue on suspicion of DUI, driving with obstructed windows, speeding, driving under restraint and resisting arrest. Police attempted to contact the man outside Kemper Elementary School for reportedly driving about 40 mph in a school zone. When the man stopped the vehicle, he reportedly got out of the vehicle and started running toward City Market. An officer reportedly dragged him to the ground by his collar, scraping the officer’s knee. The man was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, but he reportedly yelled and banged his head against the partition in the police vehicle during transport. He reportedly refused to cooperate throughout his arrest and booking.
3:27 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.
5:18 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a stolen bicycle in the 400 block of South Linden Street. A woman claimed her son’s green BMX bike, valued at $400, had been stolen from her driveway between 9 p.m. Nov. 5 and 8:15 a.m. Nov. 6. The case remains under investigation.
6:54 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., after employees claimed he had stolen three DVDs, a flashlight, a 12-pack of bratwurst, six giant candy bars, a pound of pepperjack cheese and three packages of liquid water enhancers, valued at $130.28 total.
7:52 p.m.: A woman was served two warrants for larceny and failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
Tuesday, Nov. 7
3:44 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of South Beech Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace. Earlier in the evening, employees at Burger King reported he was dancing in the parking lot. He told officers that he had been fighting with a bush, but it wouldn’t happen again. Police issued him a trespass notice and gave him a ride home. Another witness later reported he was dancing in the street and throwing water. When officers contacted him a second time, he was reportedly soaking wet and holding a doormat from a nearby porch. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to apparent intoxication by a drug.
