Native authors to speak Nov. 18

Author Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk, of the Ute Mountain Ute tribe, will speak during a meet the author event on Nov. 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the Cortez Cultural Center.

Torrey House Press and the Montezuma Great Old Broads for Wilderness present a meet-the-authors event on Saturday from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Cortez Cultural Center, 25 N. Market St. in Cortez.

Featured books include “Edge of Morning: Native Voices Speak for the Bears Ears” and “Red Rock Stories: Three Generations of Writers Speak on Behalf of Utah’s Public Lands”

Authors Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk and Lyle Balenquah will present during the event.

Lopez-Whiteskunk is the co-chair of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition, representing the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. Balenquah has worked for the past 15 years as an archaeologist documenting ancestral Hopi settlements and lifeways.

The event is free to the public, but donations are appreciated and will benefit the Montezuma Great Old Broads for Wilderness.
