Darrian Bugg, daughter of Dennis Bugg of Dolores, and Tina Tevault of Grand Junction, Colo., was named a Dimmitt Scholar at Morningside College of Sioux City, Iowa, in recognition of high academic distinction for the 2011-12 academic year.

Bugg, a junior who is majoring in biology, is a past graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School.

Dimmitt Scholars must be full-time students who have completed at least 45 credits of college work with a cumulative grade point average between 3.50 and 3.75. The award is named in honor of the late Lillian Dimmitt, who served as a teacher and administrator at Morningside College for more than 60 years.

Morningside College enrolled 2,047 full-time and part-time students for the 2011-12 academic year and welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds. The college was founded in 1894 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and remains affiliated with the United Methodist Church today.
