Ute Mountain Wolf Pack football



Ute Mountain Wolf Pack football in Towaoc is now accepting registration forms for youth tackle football. Ongoing registrations will be held at the Ute Mountain Recreation Center for kids aged 8 through 15. Cost of registration is $35 and practices begin in early August. There will also be a sign-up day on Thursday at Steve Keetch Motor Co., in Cortez from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call Nick Traweek at 564-5752 or 570-7437.




Cortez Raptors car wash



The Cortez Raptors, Mickey Mantle League baseball team will be hosting a car wash on Friday at Rim Co in Cortez from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All money raised from this event will be used as entrance fees for the team to enter the all wood-bat tournament July 27-79, at the Telluride Baseball Festival. Montezuma Titans football registrations



Registrations for the Montezuma Titans, of the Youth American Football League, will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cortez Public Library. This is for kids second- through-sixth-grade interested in playing tackle football. Registration fee is $85 with an additional $40 game jersey fee for sixth-grade players. Practice begins Wednesday, Aug. 1. The Montezuma Titans game schedule includes a minimum of seven games against Bayfield, Durango and Pagosa Springs; and, New Mexico’s, Aztec, Bloomfield, Farmington, Kirtland, Shiprock and Dulce. CMGA club championship



The Cortez Men’s Golf Association club championship is this weekend. It’s $1,000 added money. Format is medalist stroke play. Players must be paid members of the CMGA. Entry is $35, including range balls both days and lunch on Saturday (does not include green fees and cart). Will be flighted according to handicap and number of players. Mancos Days volleyball tournament



There will be a Mancos Days volleyball tournament deadline for registration on Monday, July 23. No exceptions. It will be the same place on Saturday, July 28, and will start at 8 a.m. with the first games. Payment is at 7:45. Rules are listed and prizes will be given as well. It is $5 a player for middle school and up (with current Mancos players free), and coed is allowed. Contact Dylaina Morelli at 946-6337 for more information.




Telluride Baseball Festival



The 2012 Telluride Baseball Festival camp will run from July 23-26, followed by a competitive all wood-bat tournament that runs July 27-29, at Town Park, Down Valley Park and Norwood High School. The baseball camp is dedicated to advancing each player’s skill and confidence level. With accomplished coaches from the collegiate and professional ranks, and competition at both national and international levels, the camp creates a uniquely diverse and life-changing baseball experience. More than 50 players between the ages of 5-18 will participate in camp. Cortez athletes are encouraged to attend. The keynote instructor this year will be Chad Moeller, who played more than 11 years in the Major Leagues. The wood-bat baseball tournament is for a 12-Under age group and a 16U age group. Teams from Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado will face off over three days.The game schedule and scores will be posted and updated at Telluridebaseballfestival.com. M-CHS youth football camp



Montezuma-Cortez High School will hold a free youth football camp on Friday and Saturday, July 27-28, from 8 to 10 a.m. each day at Panther Stadium. Each player will receive a free T-shirt. The camp is open to players from second- to-eighth-grade. Players will learn basic fundamentals of football from the Panthers’ players and coaching staff. Cortez Rec. Center coed softball



The City of Cortez Parks and Recreation department is now registering for coed softball. The season begins Tuesday, Aug. 14, and will continue on Tuesday nights. It’s $175 per team with an eight game guarantee and a double elimination tournament. Registration closes on Wednesday, Aug. 1. For more information, contact Joye McHenry at 564-4080.




Braiden’s all nighter softball tournament



The Cortez Softball Complex will host Braiden’s all nighter softball tournament the weekend of Aug. 25-26. It’s a $200 entry fee and it must be turned in no later than Wednesday, Aug 1. All proceeds go toward Braiden Smith and his family medical expenses. Smith, 7, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. The tourney is double elimination and payouts are awarded to first- and-second-place teams. For more information, please contact Bill McCoy at 739-7572.




Escalante Days bike rodeo and race



The Dolores Rotary Club is sponsoring a bike rodeo immediately after the Kiddie Parade on Friday evening Aug. 10. The event will begin about 6:30 p.m., and will be held in the parking lot behind Dolores Medical Center, located at 507 Central Ave. All participants will receive a helmet and a gift bag. Participants may also register for a bicycle drawing. On Saturday, Aug. 11, is the 14th annual Escalante Days Mountain Bike Race. The race will start at 9:50 a.m., at 5th and Central. There will be cash prizes for winners in the expert and singlespeed race categories, and prizes for first, second and third place finishers in beginner and sport race classes. Those beating the expert course record will be awarded a cash prize, as will the first rider to cross the cattle guard at the top of the hill. Proceeds from the race go to benefit Rotary youth, community and international service projects. Volunteers are needed. Medicine Horse golf tournament



The Medicine Horse ‘Masters’ golf tournament will be Saturday, Aug. 11, at the South Forty Golf Course, located at 25500 Road H. Registration is at 8 a.m. with a scramble format/shotgun start at 8:30. There will also be a driving range challenge, closest to the pin and longest putt challenges. Cost is $25 per player ($100 per 4-person team). Entry fee includes nine holes of golf, course drinks and lunch. All event proceeds go to Medicine Horse programs. Please preregister by calling the local Medicine Horse Center at 533-7403.




Local runners invited



All area runners are invited to join the Montezuma Milers Summer Running Group every Tuesday and Thursday evening throughout the summer. This informal, noncompetitive event offers runners of all skill levels the opportunity to meet other runners and to put on some mileage. Local high school cross-country runners are especially encouraged to attend to build a solid base for the fall season.
