The recount in the Republican primary for district attorney in the 22nd Judicial District did not change who will be on the ballot in November.

Recount numbers showed that local defense attorney Will Furse picked up one additional vote in Montezuma County increasing his overall winning margin over incumbent DA Russell Wasley to 19 votes. Dolores County Clerk LaRita Randolph early Monday afternoon said the recount had been completed and the numbers did not change from the election results at all.

Wasley received 122 total votes, while Furse finished with 89 in Dolores County.

In Montezuma County, Furse received 1,852 votes to Wasley’s 1,800.

The Montezuma County numbers were released late Monday afternoon.

Wasley asked for and paid about $2,600 for a recount after he lost by 18 votes to Furse in the June 26 primary election.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Hughes last week filed to run as a write-in candidate against Furse in the November general election. He had said that he would not run if Wasley prevailed in the recount.

Hughes filed an affidavit of intent last Wednesday with the Secretary of State’s Office. The deadline to file was Thursday.

Hughes currently serves under Wasley, and said he was encouraged to file by Wasley supporters who are unhappy with the primary election results.
