Construction crews began laying fiber optic cable this week through Dolores, which will bring faster Internet connections to the town.

Dolores Town Manager Ryan Mahoney said the project will take the cable down parts of Central Avenue and Hillside Avenue and to the Dolores School District’s administration building on Central Avenue.

The crews will then work to lay the cable along Hillside Avenue and to the school.

The Town of Dolores and the Southwest Colorado Council of Governments entered an agreement in April that will essentially bring Dolores faster Internet connections by bringing in fiber optic infrastructure.

The grant brings the faster cable to government agencies in town first, such as the town and the schools. The cable will eventually be taken to the library later this year.

Companies now have the ability to come in and offer the greater speed and service to individuals and companies in town.
