A report is being circulated that the county road crew was excavating a potato cellar for C. A. Brown of this place. There is absolutely no truth in the yarn. According to Mr. Brown himself, he is neither building a cellar nor having one built. That the county road crew is building somebody a cellar is a far-fetched as to say that the prince of Wales is herding sheep for Ed Porter. This is a sample of campaign lies the people of Montezuma County may as well be prepared to guard against.

Victor A. Miller, young Denver attorney, receiver for the Rio Grande Southern railroad, Monday petitioned the interstate commerce commission for permission to accept the gift of the Colorado and Southern railroads South Park division, according to a Denver newspaper.
The application was filed in the name of the Denver, Intermountain & Summit railroad, which has been organized to operate the lines if permission is given for their transfer.
The South Park division includes the narrow gauge line from Denver to Leadville. For the last three years the C. & S. has been trying to give it away to get rid of the losses incurred through its operation. Recently, President Ralph Budd of the Burlington road, which owns the C. & S., arranged to give the South Park division to Miller, provided the donation was approved by the interstate commerce commission. Miller plans to motorize the South Park division, as he has the Rio Grande Southern. Automobiles, with railroad car wheels instead of the ordinary wheels will be substituted for the usual equipment. Through reduction of operating expenses, Miller believes the line can be put upon a paying basis.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross has received advice from headquarters at St. Louis that the government has turned over to the Red Cross 500,000 bales of cotton to be made into cloth and wearing apparel for the needy and distressed people of the United States. For the purpose of ascertaining just what clothing is needed in this locality, all those in need are requested to get in touch with Mrs. C. W. Lilly, at once, giving a list of the clothing needed, sized and other information required. Womens and childrens cotton dresses, stockings, sweaters, coats and mens clothing, as well as cotton cloth and bedding will be available.
