The fire was discovered about 11 p.m. by workers at the Montezuma Plywood Co. factory across the road and Dolores firemen were called. The fire was in a large pile of baled wood shavings which were a loss and some nearby sawed timbers were scorched.

Marshall Clarence Williams has asked that persons driving near the fire department at the town hall during a fire call should use caution and avoid the possibility of collision with fire trucks or the vehicles of firemen. Last weekend during a fire call, many persons drove by the fire station to find out where the fire was located. One such vehicle nearly collided with a fireman in his private vehicle going out to the fire. The driver was ticketed.

An interesting proposal concerning water development in this area was brought to the attention of Montezuma County Commissioners and to some other governing bodies this week. State Water Engineer George Barclay and Al Patscheck of the Montezuma Rural Water Company told the commissioners they would like to propose a Regional Water Supply to serve the two-county area including the towns of Dove Creek and Mancos if they desire. The proposed water supply would be from a reservoir behind a dam to be built on Bear Creek. A settling works and treatment plant would be built in the vicinity of Stapleton farther down the Dolores River. Gravity flow would be used to deliver the water to the various users.
