Mildred Club Yard Sale will fund scholarship for Dolores High School
The Mildred Club Of Cortez/Dolores will sponsor a yard sale from 8a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 13719 CR 26 between CR N and CR P. Galloping Goose Historical Society to celebrate 25 years
Come celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Galloping Goose Historical Society of Dolores at the Annual Membership Meeting and Picnic Lunch of the Society on Saturday, Sep. 8 at the Galloping Goose Museum in Dolores.
At noon, a picnic lunch will be served, and we will honor some of the founding members of the GGHS, past officers and board members, and all our current volunteers who have operated the GGHS Museum and helped us in many ways in 2012.
At 1 p.m. the business meeting will be held. The agenda includes a report on 2012 operations by Society President Lew Matis; a financial report by Office Manager Denise Bowyer; and the annual election for president and vice president of the organization.

Grief workshop to begin Sept. 10
Growing Through Grief Workshop to begin Sept. 10 at the Dolores United Methodist Church. Have you lost a loved one to death from this world? Would you like to learn how to deal with the grief that comes from such a loss? Pastor Rick Carpenter will be leading this six-week workshop beginning Monday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Each workshop session will last approximately 1 1/2 hours. Topics to be covered include: The Grief Process; Emotions Were Not Supposed to Have; Letting Go But Not Forgetting; The Holidays, Societys Expectations and How to Respond; and Faith Offers Hope and A Future.
If you would prefer, you may choose to attend a second offering during the day beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dove Creek UMC.

Harvest Festival seeking booth applications
The Harvest Festival, to be held in Dolores for the first time this year is seeking booth applicants for the event, Sept. 15. There is no cost.
The Dolores Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Harvest-Fest celebration. Booth space is 10 x 10.
No craft vendors unless you are a chamber member. The park and street area will be filled with children and activities for the family with live music. We hope to make this an annual event so people can sell their products and baked goods. Space will be limited. There is no electricity available. Vendors are responsible for their own security and change.

Galloping Goose Historical Society to host Grand Tour
On Thursday, Sept. 13, beginning about 2 to 2:30 p.m. in Flanders Park in Dolores, the Galloping Goose Historical Society will host the Colorado Grand Tour, an annual 1,000-mile charity tour through West Slope Colorado communities by owners of vintage sports cars and race cars. The purpose of the tour is to raise money for not-for-profit organizations and charities and to sponsor college scholarships for graduating high school seniors. This years tour runs from Sept. 10 to Sept. 15, starting and finishing in Vail, Colorado. The following description is from the tours website, www.co1000.com.
The Colorado Grand® is an annual charity tour for 1960 and earlier sports and race cars of distinction. The tour attracts entrants from around the world and always includes several 1920s and 1930s cars. Typical makes include Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Porsche, Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Maserati, Allard, and such exotic names as Amilcar, Cisitalia, Squire, Delahaye, and Talbot-Lago. The Colorado Grand® currently generates about $200,000 annually for small Colorado charities and Western Slope towns as well as college scholarships to graduating high-school seniors in those towns. Cumulative donations since 1989 are over $3 million.
Over 90 vintage vehicles are expected to arrive for about one hour. Local citizens are encouraged to come out and enjoy seeing the cars and talking to some of the owners.
The GGHS will serve coffee and dessert to participants in the Colorado Grand Tour as they pass through Dolores. By hosting this tour, the GGHS will receive a significant donation.
Center of Light to screen Body of War
Center of Light presents a Special Feature Conscious Movie Night, Body of War, Friday, September 14th, at 7 p.m. at the Sophia Peace Center, 19581 Road 31, Dolores.
Body of War is an intimate and transformational feature documentary about the true face of war today. Meet Tomas Young, 25 years old, paralyzed from a bullet to his spine - wounded after serving in Iraq for less than a week. This film is Tomas coming home story as he evolves into a new person, coming to terms with his disability and finding his own unique and passionate voice against the war. Its a naked and honest portrayal of what its like inside the body, heart and soul of this extraordinary and heroic young man. Body of War unfolds on two parallel tracks. On the one hand, we see Tomas evolving into a powerful voice against the war as he struggles to deal with the complexities of a paralyzed body. And on the other, we see the historic debate unfolding in the Congress about going to war in Iraq. In the film, scenes of Tomas speaking out against the war are interspersed with the packaged debate in both houses of Congress, and the vote by vote tally in the U.S. Senate. (The vote on this resolution remains highly controversial five years later. In the current presidential campaign, the vote comes up again and again.) The film is produced and directed by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro.

The Dolores Chamber announces a Harvest Fest Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be food vendors, produce vendors, live music featuring Louis Edwards and Yesterday, free Galloping Goose rides and more. It will be held in front of Town Hall on HWY 145. There is still room for more produce vendors.

Center of Light presents Intro to Meditation & Christian Mysticism
Starting Wednesday, September 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sophia Peace Center, 19581 Road 31, Dolores. This is a powerful 6-week introductory course designed for modern mystics. Classes will include teachings on: the Inner Spiritual Path, Meditation, Soul, Light, Prayer, and Blessing. Time will be spent teaching the principles of meditation that will allow you to move deeper than the body, beyond thinking and emotions and into the reality of Gods peace and presence within.
In each class we explore three areas: 1) Understanding the cosmos, the Laws and Beings that govern it, and our roles as living, conscious humans in that cosmos. 2) Spiritual exercises designed to help you develop skills needed for inner work.

Family Night is Sept. 19
Montelores Early Childhood Council School Readiness Program is holding a Family Night on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ Annex in Cortez (on the corner of Montezuma and Adams across from Kemper Elementary). This evening is free of charge and includes dinner! Come and enjoy a variety of books and related activities that parents and children can do together.
