Louis Edwards and Yesterday will our featured band for our newest event Harvest-Fest on Saturday, Sept. 15. They will play from 1 to 3 p.m., while the whole event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be food booths, drink booths, produce booths, the Goose will be offering free rides, and of course we will have the live music. It’s fun for the whole family at this, our 1st Annual Harvest-Fest. There is still room for more vendors. But no crafts vendors unless you are a chamber member. Contact Ruby Gonzales at 882-7717 for an application or stop by the Visitor’s Center. There is no cost to be a vendor in our inaugural event. It will be held in front of Town Hall.

Also on Sept. 22, Groundhog Lake will be hosting a fall German-Fest celebration with fireworks and much more. They will also be having Rita from the Old Germany cooking and lots of other family friendly activities all day long on that Saturday, Sept. 22.

Our business after hours scheduleis set for the next few months. On Sept.20, Lizardhead Cyclery and Velocity Net will be co-hosting at the Lizardhead shop, and on Oct. 18 it will be at the Dolores State Bank. There will be none in November and December and tentatively Riverfront Pizza will host our first one on Jan. 17 and on Feb. 21 we will be at the Cortez Cultural Center

Don’t forget that if you attend our monthly membership meetings we will display your business info on or website link on our home page for that whole month!

The next membership meeting will be Sept. 26 at the Ponderosa and then Oct. 24 at Riverfront Pizza. Our guest speaker will be Judi Higgins, the Program Director of the CASA of the 4 Corners- Court Appointed Advocates. Also I am finalizing with the Small Business Department up at Fort Lewis offering a Quick Books class here in Dolores sometime in late October. I’ll keep you posted as time draws near.

We are also featuring a local business or two on our home page every month and also a business every week in the visitor’s center so when somebody walks into the Visitor’s Center they will see a flier of that business with all they have to offer. Currently we are featuring Karma Coffee in this capacity. So please get an 8-inch by 11-inch page featuring your business and we will prominently display that in the visitor’s center seven days a week for you for a one- or two-week period.

Our next board meeting will be Sept. 13 at 7a.m. at the Rio Grande Southern. At that time we will decide if we want to keep it in the morning or move it back to lunchtime. The following board meeting will be the second Thursday of Oct. either way.

We want to welcome our newest chamber members as we continue to seek out new members during this, our fall membership drive. They are: Axis Health Systems, The Nest Child Advocacy Center, Farmers Insurance, the VFW, Lizardhead Cyclery, The Local Pages Phone Book and Point to Point Graphics.

Escalante Days was a huge success once again. We want to thank everybody that helped with that. Don’t forget we return to our winter hours on Nov. 1, noon to 4p.m.,four days a week. See you next month.

Stuart Hanold is the Director of the Dolores Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.
