The League of Women Voters plans a series of forums for candidates running for office in local elections on April 3, according to a news release from Eleanor Kuhl of the League.

In Cortez, eight candidates are running for five open seats on the City Council. The League plans a forum at Town Hall, 123 Roger Smith Ave., at 6:30 p.m. on March 15.

Each candidate will have two minutes to introduce themselves and explain why they want to be a council member, Kuhl said. A moderator will introduce questions and give each candidate time for a one-minute response.

Audience members may submit written questions, which will be screened by the League’s moderator. No personal questions will be permitted, and all candidates will have equal opportunity to answer, Kuhl said.

The forum will be livestreamed and available on the city of Cortez website.

In Dolores, 11 candidates are running for four seats on the Dolores Town Board, and two candidates are running for mayor. The Dolores forum will be held at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave. at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Under the League’s format, the candidates will introduce themselves, and questions will follow.

In Mancos, five candidates are running for four open positions on the Mancos Board of Trustees. The Mancos forum will be held March 16, at 7 p.m. at the Mancos Community Center, 130 W. Grand Ave. in Mancos.

“The League of Women Voters encourages all voters to become informed so that they can make good decisions when they vote,” Kuhl said in an email to The Journal.

Various members of the League’s leadership team – including Pat Kantor, Betty Janes, Mayor Karen Sheek and Connie Fox – are involved in planning these events.
