A strong Pacific storm system is heading to eastern Utah and western Colorado on Saturday, followed by an abrupt wind shift and falling temperatures on Sunday.

Warm and windy weather is forecast for Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The storm will move east Saturday night.

On Sunday, the associated cold front will sweep through the area. Relatively high temperatures may occur Sunday morning, then drop 15-20 degrees during the day, the weather service said.

In addition to the sudden drop in temperatures, showers and few thunderstorms might move through the region. Light snow levels will fall into valley floors as the cold front sinks in, with up to 10 inches of snow at higher elevations late Sunday.

Travelers in eastern Utah and western Colorado should expect strong and erratic wind gusts with possible crosswinds on east-west roadways.

In Montezuma County on Saturday, expect a high temperature in the mid-50s and winds gusting to 35 mph. On Saturday night, a low of 30 degrees was forecast along with a 15-20 mph south wind.

On Sunday, there’s a 50 percent chance of rain or snow, with a high near 39 degrees and wind gusts of 30 mph. Overnight lows may drop to 12 degrees.
