John P. Kelly, a Council Bluffs lawyer, has filed suit in justice court against the GOP alleging that he was induced four years ago to vote for Herbert Hoover on the promise of a chicken. He alleges that he has never received his chicken and demands its delivery or its current value, which he estimates to be 18 cents.

Last Sunday morning a delegation of road boosters left for Denver to try to secure money from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, an appropriation passed by congress to assist the unemployment condition through the construction of highways. The following Ricoites constituted the delegation: E. L. Pellet, Frank Stampfel, Charles Engle, Frank O’Driscoll, Lois Hicks, Casper Rohde, R. W. Prout and M. P. Markey. The necessary expense money to sent these men to Denver was raised through the efforts of the people of this community and for which we are very grateful. The cooperation manifested toward this cause proves that people of this community have the “stuff” to put the standard highway over Lizard Head Pass.

Jack Anderson, alleged burglar and all-round bad man,was shot and killed by a posse, under Sheriff John Graves of San Juan County, N. M., on the La Plata River shortly after noon Friday. Anderson and another man are said to have robbed the Willis Martin store at Farmington and carried off several hundred dollars worth of merchandise, most of which was found at a camp the men had established on the La Plata river, near the Colorado line. When approached by the posse, he was seen to have a gun and having previously fired at one of the men, the officers took no chance with the bad man and started firing as soon as they saw him. sEveral bullets entered his body.

Floyd Burris died in the hospital at Norwood Thursday of last week, bringing to four the number of victims of the auto accident which occurred Tuesday night in Naturita canon. Burris’ wife, their 18-month-old baby and Mrs. Burris’ mother were killed when the car left the road and plunged 150 feet down on embankment. Joint funeral services were held for the four victims at Redvale.

The Jake Smith family is moving this week into the Fred Smith home on Seventh Street.

Mesdames T. H. Akin, Edith Trimble and J. B. Gelwich made a trip to Durango Monday, returning that evening.

Mrs. Jim Belmear, Mrs. Lottie Lockett and son Teague drove down to Cortez Sunday evening to attend the fair activities.

Mr. and Mrs. George Berg made a trip to Mancos last Friday night and report that on their way home they encountered a light snowfall.

Mrs. Maple Roelker went up the river Tuesday to cow camp near Stoner, where she will oversee the gathering of cattle for shipment on the 29th.

Kenneth Tucker made a trip to Alamosa Saturday to bring Mrs. Tucker home. Mrs. Tucker visited with home folks over the week. They returned to Dolores Monday.

C. W. Lilly is getting ready for King Winter by having a hot water heating system installed in his residence here. J. W. Grant is doing the work of installing the plant which will be completed this week.

Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Brooks, who have spent the past month visiting at the C. W. Lilly home and with other friends in the vicinity, left Thursday morning for Childress, Texas, where Mr. Brooks is employed.

Mrs. Morris Long, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Trimble, for the past several weeks, left for her home at Del Norte last Saturday. She accompanied Kenneth Tucker who made the trip to Alamosa that day.

Starting today, C. W. Lilly will start upon an extended vacation from his duties at the local railroad station.
