John Renza looks over what used to be the roof of his chicken shed on Friday near Hermosa. Thursday’s winds pulled three 10-foot tall wood beams out of the ground and sent one through the roof.
One of three 10-foot tall beams ended up going through the roof of John Renza’s chicken shed on Thursday as high winds blew through La Plata County.

A wind advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday for much of western Colorado and eastern Utah, with gusts reaching 50 mph.

Locations include Cortez, Dove Creek, Dolores and Mancos. They stretch as far north as Dinosaur, Colorado, and as far west as Canyonlands National Park in Utah, the National Weather Service said.

Sustained southwest winds are expected to average 25-35 mph, intensify tonight and continue through Tuesday morning. Tree limbs could be blown down, the weather service said, and travel may be especially difficult for high-profile vehicles.
