Cortez Library announces ongoing displays for fall



The Four Corners Miniatures Club is currently displaying their miniatures and doll houses at the Cortez Public Library. October is “International Dollhouse & Miniatures Month.” Douglas May’s display of his cartoons continues, and he is donating half of his sale proceeds to the library. Both displays will be up until the end of October.




‘Characters to Discuss’ October theme for Storytime



“Characters to Discuss” is the October theme of Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library. Storytime is held every Thursday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool-aged children. Older children are welcome to join in for the craft at 11:15 a.m. on Thursdays. The Saturday Storytime is held, weather permitting, at the Cortez Farmers Market on the corner of Elm and Main Streets. Both days of the week will follow the same theme. On Saturdays there will be no craft.

“Charlotte and Wilbur’s Daddy — E.B. White” will be discussed on Thursday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 13. “Who is Fancy Nancy’s Mama?” will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 20. “Time for Witches!” will wrap up the month on Thursday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 27. Raising Readers Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and uses the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative program.




Computer training classes in October



The Cortez Public Library and the Unlimited Learning Center, 640 E. 2nd St., will offer computer classes in October. On Thursday, Oct. 11 at 10:30 a.m. there will be a Basic Computer Class at the Unlimited Learning Center. At 1 p.m. there will be a class on using Google and Google Apps at the library. On Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m. there will be a Basic Computer Class at the Unlimited Learning Center. At 1 p.m. at the library there will be a class on Word. All classes at the library must be signed up for ahead of time, as space is limited. Sign up by calling the library or by stopping by. MAncos Public Library

The Mancos Public Library is located at 211 W. First St. and may be reached by calling 533-7600.




Little People Storytime



The Mancos Public Library offers Little People Storytime on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in both English and Spanish. Children ages 3-6 will be taught songs, verses and stories in both languages with the changing of the seasons emphasized. A craft is also offered.




After-school movies on Mondays



The Mancos Public Library will be showing the following movies at 4 p.m. on Mondays after school in October: Oct. 15 — Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (2 hours); Oct. 22 — Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (2 hours and 4 minutes); Oct. 29 — Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (2 hours and 14 minutes). This is for ages eight and above.




Western Week with poet Rosemerry Whatola Trommer



Join the Mancos Public Library for an evening with poet Rosemerry Whatola Trommer on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. to celebrate Western Week. Her poetry has been described as very intriguing, luminous, and it is said that “her words pierce the heart.”
