Pink will be everyones favorite color Oct. 18 when they attend the 10th Annual Pink Ribbon Affair in Dolores.
The annual event will feature a performance by retired history teacher and cancer survivor Dennis Seibel as Mark Twain, a fashion show, a silent auction and a all-American buffet.
The evening promises to be a fun one and will raise money for the Womens Cancer Coalition.
All money raised at this event stays here, locally, said President of the Womens Cancer Coalition, Sue Thompkins.
Money goes to help pay for cancer screenings and treatments to local women who cant afford it.
For Dolores resident Lisa Springer, the event is so much more.
Four years ago, Springer discovered a lump in her breast. It turned out to be breast cancer. Now four years later, after months and months of painful treatments, Springer says she is happy to be a breast cancer survivor.
On Oct. 18, Springer will be surrounded by other survivors.
There are so many people out there that have such amazing stories, she said. It is really life affirming.
After Springer discovered a lump in her breast, she immediately went to a doctor who told her it was just a cyst. She didnt let well enough alone and demanded it be removed, it was too painful.
After surgery, they told me it was cancer, she said. If you are not confident with a diagnosis, get a second opinion.
Springer is thankful for the Womens Cancer Coalition
When I was diagnosed, I didnt have insurance. They helped me out so much, she said. It is also a great support system. It is nice to be with other people who have walked in your shoes.
Springer said The Pink Ribbon Affair is a fun and uplifting event.
Help support a local group that does so much, she said. It gives you a chance to see what real courage is.
