Dove Creek track teams shine in Bayfield

Undeterred by gusts of wind and stiff competition, members of the Dove Creek High School track team traveled to Bayfield for the Pine River Invitational on April 14 and performed well.

Leading the way for the girls team was junior hurdler Madilyn Hankins, who placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (51.96) and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (18.65). Senior hurdler Larissa Randolph also enjoyed a solid day, scoring a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (52.94) and a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (18.41).

Rounding out the Lady Bulldogs’ impressive performances in the hurdling events was freshman Kobie Beanland, who showcased impressive speed on her way to a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (18.34). Beanland also finished fourth in the long jump (15 feet, 1¾ inches).

Other Top 15 finishers for Dove Creek included sophomore Cassie Gatlin, who placed sixth in the shot put (29 feet, 8½ inches), senior Mikayla Hankins, who finished ninth in the discus (29 feet, 8½ inches), sophomore Aspen Kibel, who crossed the line 12th in the 1600-meter run (7:52.79), junior Breea Meyer, who placed 14th in the 100-meter dash (14.72), and freshman Bridge Seely, who finished 15th in the 800-meter run (3:05.03).

The Dove Creek girls team finished seventh overall in the 12-team meet with 37 points. Alamosa High School won the girls’ portion of the meet with 196 points.

On the boys’ side, Dove Creek was led by junior thrower JD Dennison, who finished seventh in the discus (130 feet, 10 inches), and eighth in the shot put (40 feet, 9¾ inches).

Sophomore walker Cressler placed seventh in the triple jump (37 feet, 11½ inches), senior Austin Myers finished ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.72), and junior Austin Green crossed the line 14th in the 300-meter hurdles (51.47).

The Dove Creek boys team finished 12th overall in the 12-team meet with 4.50 points. Bayfield High School finished first overall with 159 points.

Next up for both Dove Creek teams will be the B&B Aztec Invitational in Aztec on April 21.
