Montezuma County officials received word this week that the U.S. Supreme Court had declined to review the case of Mesa Verde Company vs. Montezuma County over taxes on buildings located on government property in Mesa Verde National Park. The company, which is concessionaire in the park, had sought relief from some taxes on the buildings claiming they should not be taxed.

The Ponderosa Restaurant is giving free hamburgers to the Dolores football players for touchdowns, pass interceptions, and recovering fumbles. Winners in the Bayfield game were Greg Majors for touchdowns, Carl Thompson and Lloyd Johnson for pass interceptions and John McEwen for recovering fumbles.

A young Dolores man was critically injured early Saturday morning in a one car accident on the new highway west of Dolores when his car drove off the right side of the pavement, then swerved back onto the road before turning over three times and coming to rest on its wheels on the embankment. John Gary Lobato, 19, driver and only occupant was thrown through the windshield and suffered a broken neck and other injuries.

They were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sugart and girls and Mrs. Rose Howard from Snowflake, Ariz. and spending the night Tuesday with them were Mr. and Mrs. Van Hancock from Winslow, Ariz. They also visited with other relatives in the area while here.
