We wish all the best to Scott Cooper

I was saddened to read that Dolores schools superintendent Scott Cooper is heading to greener pastures (Journal, May 2).

I hope that this move is in his best interest, rather than simply to make life easier for the school board, which has been besieged by a vocal minority of late. I never did hear any specifics from those seeking his removal, just broad statements and generalizations.

What I know of Scott is that he is an eternal optimist who cared deeply for the local schools, participated in the community, and is a genuinely good person. Those traits aren’t as easy to find as one would hope, as I suspect the board is soon to discover anew.

If Scott is anything like the rest of us, I am sure he made some mistakes during his seven years of service to Dolores. However, in the six years that my two children have attended Dolores Elementary, they have each thrived under the tutelage of wonderful teachers hired and supported by the school board and the superintendent.

Best of luck to you, Scott. Unfortunately, the angry are always the loudest and the happy are rarely vocal. Dolores schools and our community will find it hard to replace your heart and dedication.
