Still under investigation is a shooting which took the life of a 35-year-old Dolores man, Eugene Bartholomew, about 11 p.m. Oct. 31.
The shooting took place near his pickup which was parked in the 300 block on Central Avenue, next to Flanders Park. No one actually saw the incident but the gunshot was heard by Mrs. June Bertram in the Hollywood Bar. She ran out into the street and saw Bartholomew slumped against his pickup, the gun beside him, with the wound in his head. The gun belonged to him.

On Nov. 1 at 8:45 a.m., four miles south of Dolores on Highway 145, Ada S. Alice, age 63 of Dolores, driving a 1966 Volkswagen, was southbound when the vehicle skidded out of control on the icy road and went off the right side of the roadway and rolled three-fourths times coming to rest on the right side. There were no injuries and the investigating officer, Virgil Puls, set the damages to the car at $400.

Tim Robinson, his son and two young grandsons, stopped by the Star office to visit for a while last Thursday afternoon. They are from Whitesboro, Texas and have hunted in our area for several years now.

Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Williams were Gail Cross and Joe Andrews from Chino, California. Mr. Cross is Shirleys father and Joe is her brother-in-law. They left for their home in California last Thursday.

Dr. J. D. Hathaway, Don Tomberlin and Chuck Davis were among Dolores residents being initiated into the Elks Club in Cortez on Wednesday evening of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bowden took Josie Nelson, Margies father, to his home in Bouse, Arizona last weekend. Mr. Nelson spent his summer in Dolores with the Bowdens and returns to Arizona for the winter months.

Mrs. Sherrie Blackmer was guest of honor at a baby shower given for her at the Dolores State Bank Building on Tuesday evening of last week. She received many gifts.

Mrs. Ramona Becher was guest of honor at a birthday supper prepared by her mother at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mory Plumlee on Tuesday evening. Also attending were Bud and Eddie Ray Becher.

Rev. Glenn Lawrence is to be back in the pulpit at the Methodist Church this Sunday. He is recuperating from back surgery and was able to preach Sunday in Mancos but was not able to ride as far as Dolores last weekend.

Mr. Tomberlin took five members of the Student Council to Bayfield Wednesday to attend a district meeting. Accompanying him were Penny Pennington, Stacy Koenig, Ken Wesch, Eddie Reynolds and Mike Chadwick.
