9:27 a.m.: A woman was arrested on a felony warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
10:26 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on two warrants for failure to comply on misdemeanor charges.
2:06 p.m.: A woman was remanded into custody from Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.
9:43 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 19000 block of County Road G on suspicion of violating a protection order after a resident reported he was parked in the driveway and throwing trash around. He was medically cleared for jail at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication.
Thursday, June 28
3:53 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
8:27 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 33000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a protection order violation and possession of drug paraphernalia after she was pulled over for failing to merge into the right lane of traffic. The arresting officer reportedly called in a K9 to sniff the vehicle after noticing some suspicious signs, including a name on the vehicle’s registration that didn’t match the name the driver had given for the vehicle’s owner. The K9 alerted officers to illegal substances in the vehicle, and a search revealed $316 in small bills, several small plastic bags, several pictures of the driver with a suspected drug dealer who is wanted on three warrants, a glass pipe and dish containing meth residue and numerous cell phones, tablets and computer hard drives.
Friday, June 29
8:39 a.m.: Deputies responded to a smoke report in the 340000 block of Colorado Highway 184. A grass fire had burned about 0.25 acres in Lost Canyon. Firefighters extinguished the flames. Deputies were unable to determine the cause of the fire, although one firefighter said he had heard someone shooting firearms in the area the previous night. The reporting party said she hadn’t heard anything.
12:25 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of property damage in the 16000 block of U.S. Highway 491. A woman reported two mailboxes had been damaged, apparently by the mirror of a passing vehicle. She told deputies this was the second time it had happened in a month.
6:03 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 24000 block of County Road F.5 on suspicion of a protection order violation, harassment and obstructing a police officer after deputies responded to a report that he had been in a fight in Cortez. When deputies stopped a vehicle matching the description from Cortez police, a passenger attempted to get out of the vehicle. One deputy pointed his gun at the man and told him to stay inside. Throughout the stop, he reportedly kept reaching for something in the vehicle and ignored deputies’ commands to show his hands. At one point he reportedly tried to break away from the arresting deputy, who tackled him to the ground, resulting in a large cut on his forehead and nose. The man was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for his injury and intoxication. The female driver was released.
Saturday, June 30
9:26 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 28000 block of County Road K.2 on a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic citation.
10:56 a.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of failing to keep his dog under control in the 22000 block of County Road D after a neighbor reported his dog had attacked her dog on her property, leading her to run it over with an ATV to protect her dog. While the responding deputy was speaking to the woman, her dog reportedly tried to attack him. Several neighbors reportedly said the man’s dog gets out often, but the woman’s dogs are more aggressive. The responding deputy advised both parties to keep their dogs on their property.
5:43 p.m.: A man was arrested at G Whil Liquors, 7033 U.S. Highway 160, on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving after a witness reported he had almost caused a traffic accident turning into the parking lot. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
10:01 p.m.: Deputies responded to a two-vehicle traffic accident in the 3000 block of U.S. Highway 160. One driver had previously been reported as a possible drunk driver, and was arrested by Colorado State Patrol troopers on suspicion of DUI. A female passenger in his vehicle was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment of neck and back pain. A deputy secured a free hotel room for the passengers, who reportedly had no money with them.
Sunday, July 1
9:55 p.m.: A deputy killed an injured deer that had caused a traffic accident in the 9000 block of County Road 27.
Monday, July 2
11:28 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for possession of dangerous drugs.
2:23 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to comply on a misdemeanor warrant.
4:21 p.m.: A female inmate was served with a warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
8:37 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 100 block of North 20th Street on suspicion of violating a protection order after her brother asked deputies to conduct a welfare check on her. She was medically cleared due to intoxication.
