The Durango-La Plata County Airport on Thursday received a $236,591 federal grant to help fund the airport’s project to rebuild its taxiway.
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that through the Federal Aviation Administration, a number of Colorado airports would receive grant money, totaling $4.3 million.
Tony Vicari, airport director, said some parts of the taxiway at the Durango-La Plata County Airport are more than 40 years old and in need of repair.
The awarded grant money will fund the engineering designs for reconstructing about 1,500 feet of taxiway.
The airport has a total of about 9,200 feet of taxiway.
After designs are complete, the airport hopes to receive another grant to help fund construction scheduled to begin in spring/summer 2019.
