Author Erica Olsen, in her latest publication, Recapture and Other Stories, writes about life, love, and one possible future. Her fictional stories take place in landscapes familiar to many in the area. Olsen is telling stories, but her stories are rooted in the legends and expectations created by the people who inhabit these western landscapes.
Marias Bookshop in Durango is featuring Olsen and other local authors through Friday, Dec. 7 in a special event: The Giving Back Gang: Local Authors Supporting Local Nonprofits.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of books will be given back to local nonprofits of the authors choosing. Sales of Olsens book Recapture and Other Stories will benefit Montezuma Land Conservancy.
Published by Torrey House Press, a Utah-based independent publisher of environmentally oriented works, Ericas book is a perfect fit for the mission of Montezuma Land Conservancy. The Land Conservancy works to protect farms, ranches and open space from development and fragmentation. It uses partnerships with landowners to ensure land is forever conserved for future generations, but remains in private ownership and management. For many landowners, protecting their places is as much about the history of their land as it is about the future use of the land.
Join the authors and representatives from Montezuma Land Conservancy at a holiday reception on Dec. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Marias Bookshop at 960 Main Ave. in Durango.
