Jane Burk and daughter Rachel have opened Twig Woman Herbs in Mancos. Burk believes in natural medicine and her herbs are a big part of that.
Ive been into natural medicine for about 20 years, she said. I got involved in it because, well, I have a family and the medications I was giving them werent working. So, Ive been educating myself, with the help of some phenomenal herbalist friends.
Burks new store is inside Geeks on Grand, 145 Grand Ave. in Mancos. Burk has dry herbs that can be used in a variety of ways, essential oils and tinctures.

Dolores County Commissioner Doug Stowe said he had been invited to a meeting to discuss hours at rural post offices. The Dove Creek Post Office dodged the bullet, but Cahone and Egnar didnt. The Cahone Post Office hours will be cut from eight hours weekdays to four hours. Stowe said that all the mail will go into boxes every day even if it takes overtime. Egnar was reduced to two hours daily and Pleasant view to four hours.

Plans to improve Ridgways historic downtown district, known as the Streetscape Plan, have encountered opposition from commercial property owners, who would be hardest hit by an increase in property taxes, a proposed method of funding the project. The town council must decide by January whether to put the proposal on the April ballot.

Blanding businessman Shelby Seely brought in $800 in pennies to pay the remainder of his property tax assessment. A conflict over Seelys property values has yet to be resolved between the Board of Equalization and the Assessors office, so Seely paid with pennies. Im in the coin counting business so I only think it is fair that they have to count coins too, said Seely. The weight of the pennies necessitated several trips from the truck to the county offices.
