Cookie's the perfect companion. Not too big, this compact and petite-sized girl is a very devoted Heeler mix. She's sweet-natured, and has big, golden-brown eyes and a glossy black coat with white markings. Her little stubby legs make her very cute, and one of her ears stand up at attention when she sees something interesting. Cookie is 7 years-old, and is highly-protective of whoever she's with. She's happy and friendly, and loves to go outside and to play with other dogs. She also is excited to go for walks - she's pretty strong on a leash. Cookie is best as an only dog, but she does get along with male dogs, as she tends to be dominant; she'll tolerate cats as long as they don't get in her face. Cookie would be a good companion dog or watch dog, and will bark at intruders. She's a good girl, and needs a loyal owner - she'll happily return the favor. The shelter also has irresistible kittens, another beautiful kitty who looks like a bobcat, and dogs and puppies who are gearing up for their appearance in downtown Cortez for the 12 Strays of Christmas dogs in their search for a forever home. The shelter is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on alternate Fridays; they will be open this Friday. The fee for adoption includes spaying or neutering, vaccination and microchipping. The shelter needs donations of non-clumping cat litter, Iams or Purina cat food, and cleaning supplies such as paper towels, Pine Sol and unscented bleach.
